HOUSTON \u2013 A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday in southwest Houston, and the driver who allegedly caused the crash was taken into custody after leaving the scene, according to Houston police.<\/p>\n
The crash happened around 1:49 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the 3100 block of Hillcroft Avenue.<\/p>\n
According to police, multiple witnesses reported seeing a vehicle traveling northbound on Hillcroft at a high rate of speed before the driver ran a red light at Richmond Avenue and struck another vehicle.<\/p>\n
Houston Fire Department crews responded, and one occupant had to be extricated from a vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police described him as an adult man who was possibly in his late 20s.<\/p>\n
The driver accused of causing the crash left the scene but was taken into custody by responding officers a short distance away. Police said the driver was evaluated for intoxication but did not meet the threshold.<\/p>\n
Police investigating additional incidents<\/p>\n
During the investigation, police said multiple vehicles breached police barriers. Some drivers suspected of being intoxicated struck patrol vehicles, according to police.<\/p>\n
A sergeant who was on foot was also struck by a vehicle and suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
A passenger in the first vehicle that breached a barrier was taken into custody on a felony warrant. Other drivers were evaluated for driving while intoxicated and transported for further follow-up.<\/p>\n
Police have not provided additional details about the deceased man\u2019s identity or potential charges related to the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
