{"id":462335,"date":"2026-10-10T17:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T17:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/462335\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T17:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T17:58:11","slug":"hungry-farmer-to-close-in-san-antonio-more-hot-headlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/462335\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungry Farmer to close in San Antonio + more hot headlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>San Antonio is one of the worst places for women in tech, a new report says.<\/p>\n<p>San Antonio disappointingly landed as No. 42 out of the 50 biggest U.S. cities in SmartAsset&#8217;s new report, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/smartasset.com\/data-studies\/best-and-worst-cities-for-women-in-tech-2026-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Best and Worst Cities for Women in Tech \u2014 2026 Study<\/a>.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The study compared the 50 most populous U.S. cities across four metrics: <\/p>\n<p>Gender pay gap \u2014 women&#8217;s median earnings as a percentage of men\u2019s median earnings in techThe share of all tech workers that are womenThe overall concentration of employment for tech workers, defined as &#8220;tech workers as a share of the local workforce&#8221;Women tech workers\u2019 median earnings, adjusted for regional price parity<\/p>\n<p>For the the study, tech workers are defined as &#8220;city residents employed in computer and mathematical occupations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The study&#8217;s findings show that fewer than 5,400 tech workers in San Antonio are women, or 23 percent of the total tech workforce in the city. Tech workers in general make up only 3 percent of the total San Antonio workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Women tech workers in San Antonio also have a sizeable gap to cross to receive equal pay compared to their male counterparts in the same industry, the study says. Women tech workers make just over $81,000 in median earnings after adjusting for regional price parity, which is 84.6 percent of what male tech workers make, SmartAsset found.<\/p>\n<p>There are only two U.S. cities where women in tech earn more than their male counterparts: Miami and Memphis, Tennessee. Women tech workers in Miami make an adjusted $88,650 in median earnings, or 101.7 percent of what men in tech make. In Memphis, women make $84,718 in adjusted earnings, or 101.5 percent of what men in tech earn.<\/p>\n<p>The study asserted that women remain underrepresented in the nation&#8217;s overall tech sector, despite making up nearly half of the total workforce. Only 22.6 percent of the country&#8217;s tech labor force is made up of women, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/newsroom\/eeoc-research-finds-unequal-opportunity-high-tech-sector-and-workforce\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Equal Employment Opportunity Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Opportunities for women in tech can vary considerably by location, and these differences shape access to jobs, career advancement and earning potential,&#8221; the report&#8217;s author wrote. &#8220;In some places, women account for a larger share of tech workers, face narrower pay gaps and enjoy a stronger local labor market.
