HARRIS COUNTY \u2013 A 48-year-old man was hospitalized with a suspected broken leg after being struck by a vehicle driven by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation Saturday morning in west Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The incident happened around 7:20 a.m. on Clay Road.<\/p>\n
Major Anthony McConnell with HCSO said ICE agents were pursuing a suspect who had an active warrant. The driver allegedly traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 6 before fleeing on foot. The driver remains at large, according to HCSO.<\/p>\n
During the pursuit, an ICE agent struck the 48-year-old passenger while attempting to box in the vehicle near a building, McConnell said.<\/p>\n
The passenger was taken to a hospital with what authorities believe is a suspected broken leg. He remains in ICE custody at the hospital, according to HCSO.<\/p>\n
Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones said she was horrified to learn about the incident and called for transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n
\u201cICE must cooperate fully with the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office and release all video evidence of this incident,\u201d Briones said in a statement. \u201cWe demand full transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n
Briones also expressed concern about the impact of federal immigration enforcement, saying her prayers were with the man\u2019s family as officials work to learn more.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing. <\/p>\n
