{"id":462733,"date":"2026-10-11T05:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T05:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/462733\/"},"modified":"2026-10-11T05:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T05:58:08","slug":"we-didnt-quit-on-the-city-cowboys-dancehall-blames-closure-on-legal-battles-i-35-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/462733\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We didn\u2019t quit on the city\u2019: Cowboys Dancehall blames closure on legal battles, I-35 construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">SAN ANTONIO \u2013 Cowboys Dancehall said legal battles with their landlord and nearby construction forced the venue to close in an interview with KSAT 12 on Saturday, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/10\/09\/cowboys-dancehall-closes-after-more-than-20-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/10\/09\/cowboys-dancehall-closes-after-more-than-20-years\/\">announcing it would not reopen<\/a> in a Facebook post Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of factors that came into that Facebook post,\u201d spokesperson Danny Perez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">One of those factors was a lawsuit from the venue\u2019s landlord regarding overdue rent payments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had some negotiations going on with our landlord in response to our lease,\u201d Perez said. \u201cWe\u2019re in negotiations (and) everything\u2019s still in negotiations. Hopefully, the negotiations work out right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The dancehall said ongoing construction on Interstate 35 has also harmed its business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cThat infrastructure is going to be great for the city when it\u2019s done. Unfortunately, we have to pay the price of it,\u201d Perez said. \u201cWhen it takes you 35, 45 minutes to get to that location, I mean that\u2019s no fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Owners and management thanked the venue\u2019s dozens of employees, Perez said, as well as musicians for their contributions to the dancehall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cThey built us,\u201d Perez said, \u201cand they\u2019re who we are.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Perez did not rule out a potential return, should circumstances surrounding the business change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t quit on the city,\u201d Perez said. \u201cThe city deserves a great live honky tonk with live entertainment.
