LAS CRUCES, N.M. \u2014 UT Arlington women’s golf wrapped up the opening round of the Golf Iconic Classic in 18th place Monday at NMSU Golf Course.<\/p>\n
The Mavericks opened the three-day tournament with a 23-over-par 311 through 18 holes. UTA sits 30 strokes behind tournament leader Nebraska, which finished the opening round at 7-under 281.

\nChloe De Verner<\/a> led the way for the Mavericks, finishing the opening round tied for 55th individually at 4-over 76. De Verner enters Tuesday’s second round nine strokes behind Fresno State’s Lara Goerlich and UTSA’s Victoria Schuldt, who share the individual lead at 5-under 67.

\nCamilah Porras<\/a> and Carmen Gonzalez Lo-A-Njoe<\/a> followed, both finishing tied for 76th after carding rounds of 6-over 78.
\n
\nNirjara Gulhane<\/a> sits tied for 88th after recording a 7-over 79 in the opening round.
\n
\nRounding out the UTA lineup was Kylie Ruston<\/a>, who finished the opening round in 102nd place at 11-over 83.

\nNebraska holds the team lead at 7-under 281, while UTSA and Fresno State are tied for second at 6-under 282. UTEP follows in fourth at 5-under 283. UTA enters the second round six strokes behind Tarleton State and CSU Northridge, which are tied for 16th, and two strokes ahead of 19th-place Southern Utah.

\nThe Mavericks will return to NMSU Golf Course for the second round Tuesday, Oct. 13, with an 18-hole shotgun start scheduled for 9:15 a.m. CDT. The tournament concludes Wednesday, Oct. 14.
