EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 El Paso\u2019s top public health official has stepped down, with the city confirming that Dr. Vinny Taneja has resigned as director of the Department of Public Health.<\/p>\n
In a statement to KFOX14\/CBS4, the city said Taneja\u2019s last day with the City of El Paso was Sept. 4, adding that he resigned for personal and family reasons.<\/p>\n
Taneja’s resignation comes after he was named as the new director of the Department of Public Health in August 2024.<\/p>\n
The city said Taneja’s annual salary at the time of his departure was $204,056.23.<\/p>\n
Before his position in El Paso, he was the previous Health Director for Tarrant County Public Health, where he had led the department since September 2014.<\/p>\n
According to a previous report from WFAA<\/a>, Taneja resigned from the Tarrant Public Health Department 24 hours after reports of complaints against him.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, according to the city, Sara Cera is serving as interim director of the Department of Public Health.
