As of Oct. 7, that number has dropped by more than 20,000 to 179,946.

This story continues below.

“Certainly we would like to see that lower, but clearly, over 20,000 individuals coming off of suspense, I think, has been very good for the county,” Adams told commissioners Monday morning.

Adams credited the drop in suspended registrations to campaigns from the county and other community organizations and political parties.

“We can see that has definitely created a reduction in the number of suspense voters,” he said.

It was reported in late August that more than 1.2 million Texas voters were on Texas’ voter suspense list. This can happen after election-related mail is returned undeliverable or information is received showing the voter may no longer live at the address on file. Voters on the suspense list can still vote, but they may need to complete an extra step by completing a Statement of Residence before voting.

Also during the meeting, Adams went over mail-in ballot numbers for the county this midterm. More than 20,000 mail-in ballots have been sent to Dallas County voters, and the vast majority of the mail-in ballots have already gone out.

One priority Adams said he will have after the November election will be looking at automating the process mailing out ballots. Dallas County currently still hand-assembles mail-out ballots, which Adams said he hadn’t seen in any other office in the past decade.

“I want to be at a point where we get to the presidential election that we can mail out a very large quantity much more efficiently,” Adams said.

More than 20,000 Dallas County voters were removed from the suspense list since Aug., Elections Administrator Paul Adams…

[9
102,104,103
post-464942","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news
["GET
