EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Voters in the Ysleta Independent School District will head to the polls in November to decide whether to approve a tax-rate measure the district says would generate $5.5 million in ongoing revenue.<\/p>\n
The proposal is being presented as a tax-rate measure, and the district has said it is not asking voters to increase their overall tax burden. <\/p>\n
Superintendent Xavier de La Torre spoke about the topic on KFOX14 Community Conversations.<\/p>\n
However, the district also acknowledges that a lower tax rate does not necessarily mean a lower tax bill for homeowners.<\/p>\n
The measure comes as YISD faces a budget deficit. <\/p>\n
District leaders have said the tax-rate proposal would help address that shortfall, and if approved, the additional revenue would be expected to affect students, teachers and parents through district spending decisions, including potential program or staffing needs.<\/p>\n
If voters reject the proposal, the district would not receive the additional ongoing revenue tied to the measure.<\/p>\n
