SAN ANTONIO – A woman was killed, and a man was hospitalized in grave condition after what investigators believe was a domestic violence-related murder-suicide in Bexar County, Sheriff Javier Salazar said.<\/p>\n
Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies were called to a reported shooting in progress near the corner of Overview Place and Brucks Drive.<\/p>\n
Salazar said deputies were called to a home for a reported double shooting. He said a homeowner, described as the father of the man believed to be involved, called authorities after coming home and finding two people shot inside the residence.<\/p>\n
The victims were described as a young man and a young woman, both about 22 years old. Salazar said the man is believed to be the homeowner\u2019s son and lives at the residence. The woman was visiting and was \u201cmost likely a woman that’s in a relationship with the young son,\u201d Salazar said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears at this point,\u201d Salazar said, \u201cthat the young man may have shot the young lady and then possibly shot himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salazar said the woman \u201cwas pronounced here at the scene by EMS.\u201d The man \u201cwas transported to the hospital in grave condition,\u201d he said, adding he was waiting for an update.<\/p>\n
The medical examiner will make the final determination on the cause and manner of death, Salazar said.<\/p>\n
Investigators did not immediately find a domestic violence-related history at the home, Salazar said. He said the only prior issues they could locate were \u201ccivil type issues with the constable’s office, the civil process type things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salazar said the woman was visiting \u201cfrom out of town,\u201d adding that she was \u201cfrom Texas originally, but I think she’s at college out of state and visiting from out of state,\u201d though he said he was not \u201c100% sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salazar said the father told investigators he received a call earlier in the day from \u201ceither one or both of them\u201d asking him to come home. <\/p>\n
Salazar said that if the case is confirmed as investigators currently believe, it would be the sheriff\u2019s office\u2019s 21st homicide of the year. \u201cWe have already surpassed all of last year’s numbers, and we’re still in October,\u201d he said. He added it could be the 10th domestic violence-related homicide and possibly the seventh murder-suicide of the year, if confirmed.<\/p>\n
Salazar urged people to seek help and leave situations that appear to be escalating toward violence, saying domestic violence often increases \u201cnot just in severity but in frequency\u201d and \u201cmany times it doesn’t stop until somebody’s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n
