It should clear south of the area before sunrise.

The front is arriving right on schedule. Tomasco said the average date for Central Texas’ first big cold front is around Oct. 14 or 15.

A few showers could develop as the front passes, but rain chances are only 30% to 40%, and most areas will stay dry. Spots that do see rain could pick up about a quarter inch. That’s in contrast to northwest Texas, where a Flood Watch is in effect and several more inches of rain could fall Thursday.

Wind will be the biggest impact Friday. Gusts up to 25 mph are possible behind the front in the morning, increasing to 30 to 40 mph from late morning through late afternoon. Tomasco said the National Weather Service could issue a wind advisory and urged people to secure outdoor items, including Halloween inflatables, before the front arrives.

After a high in the low 90s Thursday, highs Friday will only reach the upper 60s and low 70s. Temperatures will fall into the 50s Friday night.

Saturday morning will feel the coldest, with temperatures in the mid-40s in the Hill Country and low 50s along and east of I-35. Breezy winds will make it feel like the upper 30s to mid-40s. There is no risk of frost or freeze, Tomasco said.

Saturday will be sunny and breezy, with a high of 68 in Austin. Mornings in the 40s and 50s will continue into early next week, with afternoon temperatures slowly climbing back into the 80s by the end of the week.

AUSTIN, Texas — The first strong cold front of the season is moving through Texas, bringing gusty winds…

[11
132,134,133
post-466840","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-austin","tag-austin","tag-austin-headlines","tag-austin-news
["GET
