So what’s the state of crime, in the LBK? Get ready for a rollercoaster ride.<\/p>\n

I thought I’d do a third-quarter check of the Lubbock Crime Map<\/a>, and let me tell you, the fists are flying. Seriously, it looks like a flock of fists. It’s almost like the fists are fighting all the other crime symbols for dominance.<\/p>\n

Like a lot of folks, I also keep an eye on the LBK Scanner Squad<\/a> to see what crimes are being reported around town. It sure seems like assaults and domestic disturbances are among the most frequently mentioned incidents.<\/p>\n

But I guess this is one of those cases where looks can be deceiving.<\/p>\n

While we don’t have a full year of 2026 statistics to work with, aggravated assaults have actually been declining in the Hub City<\/a> since 2021, with especially large drops in 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n

We can also look at the most recent 12-month period with CurrentCrimeMap.com,<\/a> although that sneaks a little bit of 2025 into the picture. According to the current crime statistics, violent crime in Lubbock is down 29%.<\/p>\n

That’s some genuinely good news.<\/p>\n

But what does having less violent crime really mean?<\/p>\n

Well, Lubbock still ranks 99th out of 302 cities on the list. In other words, we’re doing better, but we’re hardly ready to declare ourselves a peaceful little paradise.<\/p>\n

The statistics show Lubbock has approximately 520 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.<\/p>\n

For comparison, Amarillo comes in at 590, while Midland is considerably lower at 371.<\/p>\n

And here’s one that surprised me: Fort Worth, a city with a reputation for being a little rowdy, checks in at just 325 violent crimes per 100,000 people.<\/p>\n

That’s quite a difference.<\/p>\n

Of course, a map full of crime symbols doesn’t necessarily tell you whether crime is increasing. It just shows you where incidents are being reported. And the numbers suggest we’re heading in the right direction.<\/p>\n

Still, there’s plenty of room for improvement.<\/p>\n

So how about it, Lubbock? You’re doing better, and you deserve some credit for that. But maybe it’s time to put those fists down, use your words, and settle down a little.<\/p>\n

Let’s try to make the next crime map look a little less like a boxing tournament.<\/p>\n
