<\/p>\nThe couple was walking out of the bank with a bag of money when a masked suspect got out of a grey sedan and stole the bag from the 89-year-old man, SAPD says.<\/p>\n
SAN ANTONIO \u2014 The San Antonio Police Department says an elderly couple was jugged outside a Frost Bank on the northwest side.<\/p>\n
SAPD responded to a Frost Bank on the 3803 block of Northwest Loop 410 after receiving reports of a theft.<\/p>\n
Police said an 89-year-old man and his wife were walking to their vehicle with a bag of money after leaving the bank when a gray sedan pulled behind their car. A masked suspect got out of the passenger side, confronted the man and took the money bag before fleeing in a gray sedan with the driver in an unknown direction.<\/p>\n

SAPD is investigating the incident as a possible case of \u201cjugging,\u201d a crime in which suspects target people withdrawing money from a bank or ATM and follow them to steal their cash.<\/p>\n
Rosalinda Moreno, a passerby, said she was concerned to hear about the robbery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis kind of news is very pitiful and very degrading to know that this issue has happened,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cAnd unfortunately, thank God, wasn’t ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police said investigators believe the suspects may have targeted the couple because of their age.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey probably saw that they were an elderly, elderly couple. So they figured, why wait just to get it now?\u201d an SAPD officer said on the scene. \u201cSo that’s what they did. Got off, took the bag, jumped in the car and went in an unknown direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police said no weapons were displayed and no threats were made. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
Moreno said the robbery highlights the risks people can face when accessing their money.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou never know who’s behind you, beside you or looking at you,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cIt’s just a risky chance for anybody to just step up to an ATM and do what you got to do. Times are hard. People need the money.\u201d<\/p>\n
Investigators are waiting to review surveillance video from the bank to gather more information about the suspects and the robbery.<\/p>\n
SAPD’s Property Crimes Division is investigating the case.
