A man was fatally shot by a security guard during an attempted robbery at La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth on Wednesday night, police said.<\/p>\n
More than 20 police cars responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. to the shooting at the shopping mall at 4200 South Freeway, according to police and 911 call logs.<\/p>\n
Officers arrived and learned that a man was inside the shopping center smashing a jewelry kiosk stand with a blunt object, police said in a news release.<\/p>\n
He was shot by a security guard at some point and fled the shopping center, ran across the parking lot and collapsed near Seminary Drive, police said. Officers and firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
No Fort Worth police officers fired their weapons and no other injuries were reported, police said.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office<\/a> will identify the man after next of kin have been notified.<\/p>\n Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 817-392-4222<\/a>.
