Arizona ranked second with $10.4 billion, or 9.28% of the national total, while Texas followed closely in third place with $10.2 billion, representing 9.12%. Combined, the three leading states accounted for almost 30% of the nation’s nonfuel mineral production value.

Each state relies on a distinct mix of resources beneath the ground. Nevada’s primary nonfuel commodities include copper, gold and silver. Arizona’s principal production centers on copper and molybdenum concentrates, along with cement, construction sand and gravel and crushed stone.

Texas generated its production total through construction and industrial materials, including cement, lime, sand and gravel and crushed stone, without precious metals appearing among its top commodities.

Brandon Aversano, CEO and founder of The Alloy Market, noted that high-value mineral output extends well beyond precious metals. “Gold may be the material that captures the public’s imagination, but this ranking shows how varied America’s mineral economy really is,” Aversano said. “Nevada is the clear standout, with gold and silver among its principal commodities, but Arizona and Texas show that enormous value can also come from copper, cement, sand, stone and other materials people rely on every day.”

Aversano pointed to Texas as a prime example of how everyday building components drive substantial revenue. “Materials used to build homes, roads and infrastructure may not attract the same attention as precious metals, but they are needed in huge quantities and can generate billions of dollars for a state,” Aversano said.

Aversano also highlighted that realizing full mineral wealth requires robust supply chains and labor forces. “What lies beneath the ground is only one part of the picture,” Aversano said. “States also need the workforce, infrastructure and industries required to extract, process and transport these materials. When those pieces are in place, the benefits can spread beyond mining itself to local suppliers, transport firms, manufacturers and other businesses.”

Data for the report was compiled using published state values from the U.S. Geological Survey. The agency withheld the exact value of select commodities in certain states to protect corporate data, though the study’s overall state rankings were established using full, unadjusted USGS production figures.

All facts in this report were gathered by journalists employed by CW33. Artificial intelligence tools were used to reformat information into a news article for our website.
