EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The bold, vibrant colors that helped Hal Marcus define El Paso\u2019s arts scene are taking on new meaning as his gallery moves forward without him.<\/p>\n
For nearly half a century, Marcus painted scenes that celebrated and preserved the city \u2014 from street vendors and historic adobes to neighborhood cathedrals. <\/p>\n
Now, six months after Marcus died at 71, the Hal Marcus Gallery is beginning what organizers describe as a delicate transition.<\/p>\n
Hal\u2019s widow, Patricia Medici, said this weekend\u2019s event is meant as a celebration of his legacy.<\/p>\n
The Hal Marcus Gallery and event space Sunset Parlor are hosting a two-day exhibition this weekend that will bring together dozens of local Borderland creatives. <\/p>\n
Organizers say the goal is not to let the gallery become a static memorial, but to continue what Marcus advocated throughout his career: uplifting the next generation of local talent and giving artists a stage.<\/p>\n
Ricardo Garcia, one of the featured artists, is showing recent work created as he recovers from a massive stroke he suffered last year. <\/p>\n
Camille Medina, also a featured artist, said her exposure to dance inspired her to create.<\/p>\n
\u201cVibrant Visions\u201d runs Friday and Saturday at the Hal Marcus Gallery on Oregon Street in Sunset Heights, hosted in partnership with Sunset Parlor across the street. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
