It’s kinda biblical, too, but don’t worry–there’s also sin, hellfire, and an obscene amount of cheese. And, speaking of the dark side, we’re doubling up on events in honor of Halloween. The big day is still a couple of weeks away, but we found two spirited ways to celebrate early.

Read on for some eggs to die for, plus a delicious market and a wine walk gone to the dogs.

Eggs poached in Calabrian chili-spiked San Marzano tomato sauce with chickpeas and peppers. In his Divine Comedy, the 15th-century Italian poet Dante Alighieri also wrote about Purgatory, a fiery place where lost souls are cleansed of their sins. Whether or not you have anything to confess (no judgment here), Eduardo Osorio’s take on Eggs in Purgatory is perfect for brunch. As part of the new menu at Anise, Osorio updated the classic dish of poached eggs in spicy sauce meant to symbolize Dante’s all-consuming flames. His take adds rich chickpeas, ooey-gooey burrata and buttery bread for sopping. Bottom line: being bad tastes really damned good.

Anise, 5630 Village Glen Dr. (inside the Drey Hotel)

Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Richardson outpost of beloved bakery La Casita will host a “hauntingly good” makers’ market in partnership with Pop Up Gallery. The market will feature locally crafted jewelry and candles, plus clothing, vintage finds, and original art. While we love to shop, it’ll be hard to keep our focus off the churro cruffin and its wicked house-made dulce de leche filling. Good thing we don’t have to choose.

La Casita Bakeshop, 580 W.
