\t\t\t\t\t\t\tConstruction to widen a section of Gattis School Road between Via Sonoma Trail and Red Bud Lane will begin soon in Round Rock after officials awarded a contract to Smith Contracting Co. in November.<\/p>\n

What you need to know<\/p>\n

The road project\u2014part of the city\u2019s Transportation Master Plan<\/a>\u2014will include widening the existing four-lane roadway to a six-lane arterial thoroughfare with a raised median. The project also includes pedestrian and bicycle improvements, according to city documents.<\/p>\n

Funding for the $20.4 million road project comes from the Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corporation, through local sales tax revenue.<\/p>\n

In addition to widening Gattis School Road, the project will add a center turn lane from Westview Drive to Red Bud Lane.<\/p>\n

Upgraded traffic signals are also planned for intersections at Lake Forest Drive, High Country Boulevard and Red Bud Lane.<\/p>\n

This is the second time this project has been bid. Round Rock officials moved to terminate<\/a> the original $17.5 million contract with Capital Excavation Co., following utility relocation delays.<\/p>\n
