GRAPEVINE — Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal got one starter back and another may be back soon.

The Saints, still playing with a backup quarterback, rolled to a 45-7 win over Grapevine Faith on Friday at Trident 1 Field.

All Saints scored all 45 of its points in the first half, a combination of the rushing attack of Brayden Boults and Bodie Brown tossing two touchdown passes to Jaytn Briles.

Brown has thrown for 7 touchdowns, compared to only 1 interception, in two starts at the position, filling in for starter Brailon Davis. The junior has been out with a broken toe since Oct. 6, but could be back next week for the TAPPS Division II District 1 de facto championship game with Midland Christian.

The offense used Carmelo Carter more in Friday’s win after three weeks of having to focus more on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Nolan Luffey returned to the secondary after recovering from an appendectomy and Carter moved back to running back.

Carter and Boults, both transfers, provide a solid tandem in the backfield — even more important with a backup quarterback.

“We were able to use Carmelo in the backfield and Brayden Boults is such a force and our wide receivers are such threats,” Coach Aaron Beck said. “With Carmelo back running the ball and both running backs are such threats. They are two different runners.”

Boults had three touchdowns, the sixth time this season he scored at least two touchdowns in a game for the Saints (7-2, 3-0).

The sophomore who moved in from Sumter, South Carolina, has offers from Georgia, Texas Tech, Florida and SMU, to name a few. His 48-yard touchdown run on the Saints’ sixth offensive play started the scoring barrage early in the first half.

His next score, from 9 yards away, made it 24-0 late in the first quarter. He lined up at quarterback late in the second quarter and took it in from 5 yards out to account for the final touchdown for the Saints. He has 16 touchdowns now. Unofficially, he ran for 195 yards.

Carter, a transfer from Fort Worth Arlington Heights, had a 46-yard touchdown catch, but it was called back due to a hold.

That drive continued and ended with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Briles. The two had an 18-yard connection for a score on the next drive. Briles is now tied with Noah Tarrant for the team lead with 7 touchdowns. It was the second week in a row with 2 touchdown receptions for the Saints.

All Saints received a 49-yard field goal from Carver Johnston and Jet Thomas returned a blocked punt for a score in the first quarter.

Grapevine Faith (3-5, 1-1) broke up the shutout in the fourth quarter. With about 10 minutes to go, backup quarterback Moses Smeltzer connected with Cason Parker for a 27-yard score. The Lions got down to the All Saints’ 1-yard line on the final drive, but came up short on scoring again.

The Lions have alternated wins over the past six games and will stay home to host Fort Worth Christian on Oct. 23.
