Hutto City Council received an update during its October 1 meeting<\/a> about its Southeast Loop wastewater line project. That project involves installing an approximately 2,200-foot pipe system in the Austin suburb, city officials noted. The city has ballooned in population over the past five years with the 2020 Census noting 27,000 residents, and the latest estimates coming in at 46,000 \u2014 a nearly 67% increase.<\/p>\n

During the October 1 projects update, Kate Moriarty \u2014 the city’s executive director of administrative services \u2014 \u00a0informed council the city fielded a call from the project’s contractor, confirming that remediation work won’t be done until March 2027. Moriarty added staff also notified\u00a0the neighboring suburb of Taylor about the construction delay, given that they have developments affiliated with the project due to interlocal agreements in place.<\/p>\n

Hutto Mayor Mike Snyder asked staff the cause behind the six-month delay, with staff confirming approximately 1,500 feet of the 2,200-foot pipe line have been improperly installed.<\/p>\n

“Almost the whole damn project they did wrong,” Snyder replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Moriarty said McKee Utility Contractors, the entity behind the project, has been responsive and admitted to the issues at hand, adding they will be transparent with the city about the ongoing work.<\/p>\n

Council members encouraged city staff to keep them posted on any developments on the project’s front, adding regular updates from staff on projects that are expecting delays would be beneficial for transparency’s sake.<\/p>\n
