The Arlington Heights Yellowjackets continued their dominant season Friday, cruising to a dominant 71-0 victory over the North Side Steers and extending their unbeaten record.<\/p>\n
Arlington Heights (7-0, 4-0) wasted little time taking control. Wide receiver Vito Jovanovic opened the scoring with a touchdown just two minutes into the first quarter, giving the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, a North Side mistake in the end zone resulted in a safety, increasing the advantage to 9-0.<\/p>\n
Quarterback Reid Ellis added to the lead midway through the opening period, breaking through the Steers\u2019 defense for a touchdown that made it 15-0. With just over two minutes remaining in the quarter, wide receiver Dallas Wade hauled in another touchdown to push the score to 22-0.<\/p>\n
North Side managed to move the ball into Arlington Heights\u2019 territory late in the first quarter but was unable to capitalize.<\/p>\n
The Yellow Jackets continued their offensive surge in the second quarter. Running back Carson James scored on a 19-yard touchdown run to make it 29-0, and shortly afterward, wide receiver Holden Downe added a 5-yard touchdown reception for a 36-0 lead.<\/p>\n
After a brief defensive stand by the Steers, slotback Yakeime Thomas broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run, extending the margin to 43-0.<\/p>\n
Arlington Heights closed the first half with an explosive scoring burst. Running back Jordan Cooper scored on a 6-yard touchdown run with 2:27 remaining, followed by a 24-yard touchdown from wide receiver Tyler Simmons with 59 seconds left. Thomas capped the half with a 20-yard touchdown run in the final seconds, giving the Yellow Jackets three touchdowns in less than three minutes and a commanding 64-0 halftime lead.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels great seeing everything I have worked for come to fruition,\u201d Arlington Heights running back Carson James said. \u201cIt is really fun to play with all my teammates.<\/p>\n
The pace slowed after intermission, but Arlington Heights continued to control the game. Jack Evans scored on a 6-yard run midway through the third quarter, providing the final points of the night and extending the lead to 71-0.<\/p>\n
The fourth quarter featured a running clock and a strong defensive performance by the Yellow Jackets, who preserved the shutout and secured their most lopsided victory of the season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am super proud of the effort; I am super proud of how they played.\u201d Arlington Heights head coach Curtis James said. \u201cI think they played a great sportsmanship game tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the win, Arlington Heights remains undefeated and continues to build momentum heading into next week\u2019s matchup against the Trimble Tech Bulldogs Oct. 22 at Handley Field. The Jackets, along with Fort Worth Wyatt, are in the running for a district title.<\/p>\n
North Side will look to rebound when it faces O.D. Wyatt Oct. 24 at Farrington Field.<\/p>\n
