But when can residents in South Central Texas expect for the weather to actually cool off until spring rolls around?

MySA gave the Austin/San Antonio National Weather Service office a ring to find out. Lead meteorologist Emily Heller told MySA that it’s hard to predict exactly when those temperatures will come down for good, despite the state getting “a taste of fall.” Forecasts are notoriously hard to pin down more than a few days out, which can make weather feel unpredictable.

However, as things warm back up this week, don’t be too bummed. There is cooler weather on the horizon, at least based on climate data.

“It really varies here in South Central Texas,” Heller said. “We call October more of a transitional season because we’re so far south, but we should start to see some of these fronts head our way, which is kind of what we have seen. There was a front earlier in October that cooled us down for like a day — not very much — and then this one cooled us down briefly. But I would expect probably more in the November timeframe that we’ll see that cooler weather that sticks around.”

This October has been pretty on par with other years, temperature-wise, so we can expect averages in the 80s as we head into November. South Central Texas tends to stay warmer later into the year because of moisture coming off the Gulf and because storm fronts have a hard time making it down here early in the season, Heller said. We’re seeing an intense El Niño season right now, though that increase in activity hasn’t materialized for the region, according to Heller.

The average low for San Antonio in November is around 52 degrees, falling to an average of 44 degrees for December, Heller said.
