Day two of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest was underway in El Paso. <\/p>\n
Sunday’s event was hosted by Indivisible the 915, a volunteer-led grassroots organization that is part of the national Indivisible movement. <\/p>\n
Many participants shared a common message: encouraging El Paso residents to make their voices heard at the polls.<\/p>\n
Protester and activist Rogelio Carrasco said, \u201cWe are out here to try to encourage people to vote. Early voting starts October 19th and runs till October 30th, and we’re trying to activate the vote. To try to get people out there and vote.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEl Pasoans are motivated; we are out here to get the vote out, and whatever it takes, we will do it,\u201d said protester Barbara Canchola.<\/p>\n
Participants also shared their thoughts on counter-protesters, with some saying both groups were there to express their opinions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey just stood around; I think they just wanted to be seen themselves; they didn’t start anything, they didn’t fight anything. Everyone was cool with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
Indivisible the 915 says it believes in nonviolent action and that voting is a key way for people to protect democracy.<\/p>\n
The group advocates for democracy, progressive leadership, and an end to the expansion of immigrant detention in the community.<\/p>\n
The organization states, \u201cWE THE PEOPLE have the power to stop the authoritarian creep that is trying to take over all three branches of our federal government. That power resides in our votes.\u201d<\/p>\n
