HOUSTON \u2013 Harris County shattered its early voting record on Day 1, with 104,201 ballots cast by 6 p.m. \u2014 blowing past the previous record of 63,000 votes set during the 2018 midterm elections. The milestone was confirmed by the Harris County Clerk\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Lines stretched out the door at polling sites across the county. The Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center led all 75 locations with 3,153 votes cast by 6 p.m. Here is a look at the top five busiest polling locations on Day 1:<\/p>\n
No. 1 \u2014 Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center: 3,153 votes<\/p>\n
No. 2 \u2014 Kingwood Community Center: 2,794 votes<\/p>\n
No. 3 \u2014 Juergens Hall Community Center: 2,755 votes<\/p>\n
No. 4 \u2014 Metropolitan Multiservice Center on West Gray: 2,734 votes<\/p>\n
No. 5 \u2014 George Bush Community Center: 2,693 votes<\/p>\n
Voters cited a range of issues driving them to the polls, including the cost of living, overseas conflicts and concerns about long-standing political leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe coffee that I buy two years ago was $12 for a big can and now it\u2019s $25 for the same thing, it\u2019s ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another voter echoed similar economic frustrations.<\/p>\n
\u201cCost of living is way too high, war in Iran, our support to Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n
For some, the motivation was political change.<\/p>\n
\u201c30 years of one party dominating the state, it\u2019s time to get the other guy\u2019s chance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Immigration was also mentioned as a key concern among voters at the site. One voter pointed to ongoing global conflict as a top priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably the war \u2014 like it\u2019s my biggest issue right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked which conflict specifically, the voter responded: \u201cLike the war in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n
Election officials reminded voters to check nearby polling locations, as wait times vary by site. Harris County has 75 early voting locations available, and officials say operations ran smoothly on Day 1.<\/p>\n
Early voting runs for 11 more days. Officials encouraged voters to plan ahead and take advantage of less crowded sites when possible.<\/p>\n
