<\/p>\nWith just two weeks until Election Day, the race for Texas\u2019 U.S. Senate seat is heating up as Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico bring their campaigns to the Houston area.<\/p>\n
Both candidates are making a final push to win over voters in one of the country\u2019s most closely watched Senate races.<\/p>\n
Texas hasn\u2019t elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1988, and with early voting already underway, both campaigns are urging supporters to head to the polls before Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is scheduled to make two stops in the Houston area Tuesday, Oct. 20, as part of his statewide \u201cCome and Take It\u201d bus tour.<\/p>\n
His scheduled appearances include:<\/p>\n
Conroe: 11:30 a.m. at The Table at Madeley<\/p>\n
Fort Bend County: 5:30 p.m. at Safari Texas Ranch<\/p>\n
Paxton, who campaigned in Fort Worth on Monday, is highlighting his record as attorney general and his conservative priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m asking you to look at my record and compare that with a guy named James Talarico,\u201d Paxton said.<\/p>\n
He has also emphasized affordability and economic opportunities for Texas families.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy agenda is very simple. I\u2019m going to fight so that every Texan can buy a home, raise a family, and live a healthy life without struggling to make ends meet,\u201d Paxton said.<\/p>\n
Democratic state Rep. James Talarico is also bringing his campaign to the Houston area as part of his \u201cClear Eyes, Full Hearts\u201d tour.<\/p>\n
Talarico has two appearances scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21:<\/p>\n
Houston: 11:30 a.m. at the University of Houston<\/p>\n
Richmond: 7 p.m. at Safari Texas Ranch<\/p>\n
Talarico, who also campaigned in Fort Worth on Monday, has focused his campaign on lowering costs for working families and making health care more affordable.<\/p>\n
\u201cTexans voted to bring down health care costs, but corrupt political deals have gutted our health care, sending premiums skyrocketing, all to fund tax cuts for billionaires,\u201d Talarico said.<\/p>\n
The Democrat is hoping to make history by becoming the first member of his party elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas in nearly four decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd on November 3rd, we are going to do something extraordinary,\u201d Talarico told supporters.<\/p>\n
Early voting underway in Texas<\/p>\n
The campaign visits come as Texans are already casting their ballots in the Nov. 3 general election.<\/p>\n
Early voting began Monday, Oct. 19, and continues through Friday, Oct. 30.<\/p>\n
With the election approaching, both candidates are focusing on voter turnout, including in the Houston area, where Harris County and surrounding communities represent a significant number of Texas voters.<\/p>\n
