After the property became vacant, officials received reports of squatters, suspected drug activity, illegal dumping, theft and multiple fires over the past year.

Parts of the building had collapsed, while other sections remained standing but were considered unstable. The structure was demolished and the property cleared in February, according to the precinct.

The cleanup effort is part of a countywide nuisance abatement program Garcia brought to Commissioners Court using American Rescue Plan Act funds. After that funding was largely exhausted, Commissioners Court unanimously approved a $500,000 agreement between Precinct 2 and Harris County Public Health to continue the work within the precinct.

Harris County Precinct 2 clears 23 dangerous properties, addresses 93 violations (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Nuisance violations addressed through the program include unsafe structures, unsanitary conditions, illegal dumping and uncovered swimming pools.

“Public safety doesn’t just mean men and women with badges and a gun stopping crime.
