LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR

St. Mary’s suffered its first loss in league play on Saturday, meaning that even with a tie against West Texas A&M, Midwestern State has taken sole possession in the top spot in the LSC standings. The Rattlers are still just a point back of first place, but are now tied for second with Oklahoma Christian. UT Dallas and DBU are currently tied for fifth with 10 points apiece. The Chaps currently sit in sixth with nine points, but only have two games remaining because of a bye on Saturday. The top six teams by points at the end of the regular season will advance to the LSC Tournament, which opens on Oct. 31.

ROAD JOURNAL

Road contests have been the number one struggle for the Chaps this season, with an 0-6-0 record in games away from Lubbock. Wednesday is the seventh and final road game in the 2026 regular season. They went 4-4-2 in road games last season with wins at Adams State, St. Edward’s (2) and West Texas A&M. The last time they had more wins than losses in road games was the 2023 season, when they were 3-1-4. Their best season on the road was in 2013, when they went 6-2-0. Stang Park features a natural grass playing surface.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Lubbock Christian lost a lot from their 2025 LSC runner-up team, which means the 2026 edition of the Chaps have been relying on a number of newcomers. Of the five LCU players who have started all eight games so far this year, three – goalkeepers Milo Paci and Arath Valdez, defender Max Moorahrend and midfielder Alex Lachevre – are brand new to LCU. The Chaparral leader in shots with 20 – forward Oli Robinson – is also new, and the Chaps have also relied heavily on newcomers Finn Wijnen, Tom Unwin and Jackson Preece.

Parker Plaxco leads the MSU offense with 12 goals on the year, a mark that also ranks atop the LSC
