The Houston Fire Department received nearly $10 million in federal funding for training, recruitment and retention efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sen. John Cornyn\u2019s<\/a> office announced that through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), HFD would be one of a handful of departments in Southeast Texas to receive funding through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grants program<\/a>.<\/p>\n The program was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities, according to the grant website.<\/p>\n HFD received $9.9 million, which will be used for hiring more firefighters.<\/p>\n \u201cTexas is home to some of the nation\u2019s bravest and most highly skilled first responders and firefighters who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty and risk their own safety to help others,\u201d Cornyn said. \u201cThese resources will provide critical support to fire departments and equip our heroes with the tools needed to continue saving lives.\u201d<\/p>\n Also of note<\/p>\n Other Southeast Texas recipients include:<\/p>\n Waller-Harris Emergency Service District No. 200 – $3.6 million<\/p>\n Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 10 – $2.9 million<\/p>\n City of Webster Fire Department – $2.2 million\u00a0<\/p>\n The total award amount for the region is $18.7 million.
