{"id":472698,"date":"2026-10-21T22:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T22:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/472698\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T22:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T22:36:07","slug":"families-with-pride-to-host-costume-party-at-discovery-green-heights-river-oaks-montrose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/472698\/","title":{"rendered":"Families with Pride to host costume party at Discovery Green | Heights &#8211; River Oaks &#8211; Montrose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin\u2019s office will host the fifth annual Families with Pride celebration at Discovery Green on Oct. 24.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How it started<\/p>\n<p>Families with Pride started after a constituent reached out to <a href=\"https:\/\/cao.harriscountytx.gov\/About\/County-Attorney-Abbie-Kamin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Kamin\u2019s office<\/a> when she served as a Houston city council member for District C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlake Ellis, who&#8217;s now a friend, said, \u2018We love celebrating Pride, but with little kids we would really love a place where we can go play with our kids and celebrate and teach them about Pride,\u2019\u201d Kamin said. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018Well, let&#8217;s create it.\u2019 So, we created this amazing event.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event is in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.houstonlgbtchamber.com\/event-calendar\/Details\/join-us-at-families-with-pride-1899926?sourceTypeId=Website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Families with Pride is a free, family-friendly event that celebrates togetherness.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an opportunity for LGBTQ families and allies to bring their children to Pride to learn, understand and appreciate diversity, Kamin said. <\/p>\n<p>How it\u2019s going<\/p>\n<p>The event offers child-friendly activities including live entertainment, an indoor reading room with Pride storytime, art installations, hula hooping and face painting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Families with Pride is always in October during LGBTQ+ History Month, when the weather is cooler than during Pride Month, which is in June, Kamin said.
