EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A town hall in Downtown El Paso wants to give people an opportunity to better understand local elections and what’s at stake.

Senior program officer at the El Paso Community Foundation and former news anchor Stephanie Valle said Puente News Collaborative, a nonprofit news organization that reports on binational issues on the border, is hosting the event on Oct. 29, bringing together journalists, experts and election officials to break down some of the big races.

“A lot of people have a lot of mistrust or lack of understanding about how our industry works. And so we wanted to take this opportunity to talk about in-depth journalism,” Valle said. “That’s why we wanted to host the town hall to create this arena where people can hear from journalists and ask questions of journalists and really get a deeper sense of what’s happening in their community, especially at this time during the elections.”

“I do believe that every election is vastly important because this is an opportunity for the community to tell the government what they like and what they don’t like,” Valle said.
