Parts of Texas<\/a> could face several days of severe weather<\/a>, with storms kicking off today and potentially lasting through the weekend.<\/p>\n

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to sweep through West Texas Thursday afternoon and evening, mainly west of the Rio Grande Valley, according to the National Weather Service El Paso office. Storms will be accompanied by hot temperatures, roughly five to ten degrees above average.<\/p>\n

Meteorologists warn storms could bring damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain to the region. There’s even a small risk for a tornado or two Thursday afternoon, generally along of west of the Continental Divide.<\/p>\n

The amount of precipitable water-or a measure of how much moisture is in the air-could potentially reach record-breaking levels.<\/p>\n

“The upper low starts to lift out over SoCal and southern NV area Thursday afternoon,” El Paso forecasters wrote in their outlook. “PW values will reach 1.1″-1.2,” which would be in the record-breaking category.”<\/p>\n

A Flood Watch is in effect for the Gila region starting at noon Thursday, lasting through 6 a.m. Friday. Rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying flood areas could flood with rainfall amounts between one and three inches possible Friday morning.<\/p>\n

“Models have been focusing over this region for heavy accumulations around 2″ or so,” according to the NWS El Paso office. “The anomalous moisture in the air will promote heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.”<\/p>\n

The threat of flooding and severe weather will continue Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

“The second low finally starts to lift out Sunday morning, drying out much of the area from west to east,” El Paso forecasters wrote. Some lingering storm chances Sunday for far eastern locations that afternoon.”<\/p>\n

An incoming cold front<\/p>\n

Forecasters in North and Central Texas are anticipating an early or mid-week cold front, though details are still uncertain.<\/p>\n

“While long-range guidance is coming into agreement on a cold front FROPA into North and Central Texas on or around Tuesday of next week, there is still much uncertainty on timing, intensity, and any rain chances in the area,” according to the NWS Dallas-Fort Worth office.<\/p>\n

A more unstable, cooler pattern is expected to shift in leading up to Halloween, with highs area-wide in the lower 70s and lows in the 50s. Forecasters say expected impacts will develop over the next several days.<\/p>\n
