A new Fox News poll shows Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico tied at 49% in Texas’ U.S. Senate race, as the candidates continue to disagree over a potential debate. FOX 7 Austin’s Julieanna Jackson has details.<\/p>\n

AUSTIN, Texas – The hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Texas between Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico is even, according to a FOX News poll.<\/p>\n

The poll surveyed 1,398 likely Texas voters between Oct. 15 and 19, and has a margin of error of +\/- 2.5%. It\u00e2\u0080\u0099s a larger sample than the 881 likely Texas voters FOX News surveyed in September, which had a margin of error of +\/-3%.<\/p>\n

Talarico vs. Paxton: How the candidates differ on schools and education<\/a> <\/p>\n

Education policy is one of the areas where James Talarico and Ken Paxton have the clearest differences. The two Texas Senate candidates have taken opposing positions on school vouchers, religion in public schools, higher education costs, diversity programs and school library restrictions. Here\u00e2\u0080\u0099s where they stand.<\/p>\n

Paxton, Talarico tied in Senate race <\/p>\n

By the numbers:<\/p>\n

According to the data, both Paxton and Talarico got 49% of respondents with 1% saying they don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t know.<\/p>\n

That\u00e2\u0080\u0099s a shift down for Talarico, who had 51% in the September poll. Paxton\u00e2\u0080\u0099s percentage was unchanged between the two samples.<\/p>\n

The most-recent FOX News poll found that Paxton\u00e2\u0080\u0099s support has grown by a point with both men and women since September, while Talarico\u00e2\u0080\u0099s support has dropped by a point with men and by two points with women.<\/p>\n

Talarico holds a much larger lead over Paxton in the favorability category with 49% of respondents saying they had a favorable opinion of him. Paxton got a favorable rating with 41% of respondents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Abbott leads Hinojosa in Texas governor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s race in poll <\/p>\n

The most recent FOX News poll found that incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott holds a lead over Democrat Gina Hinojosa in the Texas governor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s race.<\/p>\n

Abbott, who is seeking a historic fourth term in the state\u00e2\u0080\u0099s top office, got 52% in the poll, while Hinojosa got 47%.<\/p>\n

The poll found that 7% of Talarico supporters said they plan to split their ticket to vote for Abbott. Compare that to 2% of Paxton supporters who said they plan to vote for Hinojosa.<\/p>\n

Texas outlawed straight-ticket voting in 2017.<\/p>\n
