White Settlement Mayor Faron Young<\/a>, who is unopposed in the Nov. 3 election, said he was shocked when he saw security-camera footage showing a councilman\u2019s wife stealing one of his campaign signs.<\/p>\n Jennifer James, whose husband, Aaron James, is seeking his second council term,<\/a> was cited for theft after Young said he reported the incident to White Settlement police.<\/p>\n \u201cI truly couldn\u2019t tell you why she took the sign,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n Young said that on Oct. 1, he decided to check on his campaign signs after a rainstorm to make sure they were still in place.<\/p>\n The sign in question was on private property belonging to a dealership, Cars-For-U on White Settlement Road.<\/p>\n Young said he got permission from Cars-For-U to put up a campaign sign.<\/p>\n Young asked to review security-camera footage and saw someone driving up in a blue SUV, and he recognized Jennifer James taking his sign.<\/p>\n \u201cI have no idea why she would do that,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n Aaron James, who owns a masonry business, did not return calls seeking comment.<\/p>\n Young said he decided to file a police report about the sign theft, and Jennifer James was cited for stealing the sign.<\/p>\n Young said he has no issue with James or with his wife.<\/p>\n \u201cJennifer and I have always been cordial, and she worked in our public library for a while,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt just doesn\u2019t make sense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n When asked why he filed the police report, Young said he did so because the signs cost money.<\/p>\n \u201cWe raised funds. I had people who made donations for those signs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be touching people\u2019s private property,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n Although Young is unopposed, James is facing challenges<\/a> from Don Wagnon, who is retired from Lockheed Martin, and David Burke, in the Place 1 council race.<\/p>\n James is also a Tarrant County Republican Party precinct chair.<\/p>\n Young posted previously about encouraging people to vote for Wagnon.<\/p>\n Young said he has no animosity toward James or his wife.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s easy to say, \u2018Hey, my wife made a mistake\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re going to take someone\u2019s sign, take your opponent\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n Related Stories from Fort Worth Star-Telegram<\/p>\n
