Texans have sung and danced at Floore’s Country Store in Helotes<\/a> for decades. The dance hall that helped launch Willie Nelson’s career has remained a popular gathering place for 84 years, but all that singing and dancing can work up an appetite. Floore’s is famed for its pork tamales, but now guests can devour one of the Alamo City’s top barbecue joints inside the storied hall.<\/p>\n

Reese Bros Barbecue, the Texas Monthly Top 50 favorite from Nick and Elliott Reese, partnered with Floore’s Country Store in April<\/a>, giving fans a chance to snack on award-winning barbecue while dancing to everyone from Charley Crockett to Randy Rogers. Now\u00a0Floore’s has taken it a step further. Every Sunday at 11 a.m., Floore’s opens its doors for guests to enjoy a Reese Bros Barbecue lunch<\/a>. It’s a chance to enjoy the acclaimed smoked meats and experience the historic hall without buying a ticket.<\/p>\n

The menu is almost identical to Reese Bros’\u00a0Hoefgen Avenue restaurant. Brisket is sold at $40 a pound, pork spare ribs $32\/pound, turkey breast $30\/pound and queso fundido sausage is $16\/pound. Sides available are the poblano mac & cheese, potato salad, cilantro lime coleslaw and okra beans, all of which come in small ($6) and large ($8) sizes. Brisket sandwiches cost $18, turkey sandwiches are $15 and the bread pudding dessert is $5 an order.<\/p>\n

We found the most cost-effective option was the three-meat, three-side plate for $32. The plate came with a generous amount of brisket, ribs and turkey, which saved us enough money to also order a sausage and bread pudding. Plus, being at Floore’s, we also ordered the pork tamales, which get you three tamales for $10.99.<\/p>\n

The poblano mac & cheese stood out as the best barbecue mac and cheese I’ve eaten to date. While other mac and cheeses are dry or sopping wet, the poblano mac was perfectly creamy with a nice amount of heat. I’d take poblano mac any day over\u00a0regular mac and cheese.<\/p>\n

The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and the sausage had a good mixture of heat, cheese and snap to satisfy any barbecue fans. The brisket had a solid bark that added extra flavor, and it doesn’t need the sauce, but the barbecue sauce on the side added an extra sweetness. The turkey, meanwhile, had a great bark near the edge, and the pickled onions were the only thing that elevated it.<\/p>\n

The okra beans were a great alternative to traditional cowboy beans, giving a homemade feel in the best way. Meanwhile, the bread pudding was warm, salty, and gooey, a perfect way to cool the mouth after a hot meal. The only thing I felt was missing was a slice of cornbread. Adding that treat would only elevate the menu.<\/p>\n

And of course, the tamales were warm and delicious, with a perfect filling-to-masa ratio, and Floore’s doesn’t skimp on size. The salsa was too hot for me, but if you love spicy food, then it’s perfect.<\/p>\n

To put it plainly, lunch at\u00a0Floore’s is fun. You get to enjoy an amazing meal, look at the dozens of artist photos on the walls (we sat by Robert Earl Keen and Little Richard), and gawk at the fleet of cowboy boots hanging from the ceiling. I would gladly come back for Reese Bros during a Floore’s show, but it’s nice to know the food is also available for a great Sunday meal.<\/p>\n
