As Arch Manning criticism continues to mount<\/a>, and as buzz continues to swirl about the grim outlook for the 2027 Draft quarterback class, one ESPN analyst thinks the Texas signal-caller should take a different route altogether.<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s \u201cFirst Take,\u201d Dan Orlovsky said he thinks Manning \u2014 who could get benched soon after the Longhorns gave their backup more reps in practice \u2014 should skip declaring for the draft this year and spend another season elsewhere at the college level.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think whatever happens this weekend, cool, I think this relationship is certainly done,\u201d Orlovsky said, according to Awful Announcing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not believe Arch should go to the NFL. I believe Arch should leave Texas and go to a place that can adamantly develop him as a quarterback, that gives you the ability to play quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orlovsky also ripped the Texas offense and said it doesn\u2019t allow Manning \u201cto play quarterback\u201d and has contributed to his regression.<\/p>\n

Entering Saturday\u2019s game against Ole Miss, Manning has thrown for just 1,295 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions one year after throwing for 3,163, 26 and seven, respectively, in 2025.<\/p>\n

ESPN reported earlier in the week that KJ Lacey \u2014 Manning\u2019s backup \u2014 received more reps with the first-team offense<\/a> this week, and it\u2019s unclear if head coach Steve Sarkisian could pivot to Lacey if everything goes awry against the Rebels.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns rose to No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings after toppling then-No. 1 Ohio State, but they sat at just No. 19 in the most recent poll after dropping consecutive games \u2014 by a combined six points \u2014 to Oklahoma and Florida.<\/p>\n

But the quarterback issue for the upcoming draft isn\u2019t limited to just Manning, either.<\/p>\n

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that one college scouting director described the evaluation of talent \u2014 without knowing which quarterbacks will ultimately declare and be available \u2014 as \u201can absolute s\u2013t show,\u201d according to Bleacher Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He tweeted Saturday<\/a> that several NFL executives have \u201cexpressed skepticism\u201d that all the top quarterbacks in the class actually enter the 2027 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Manning was pegged as one of the top quarterbacks in the class entering the season, but in ESPN\u2019s updated quarterback rankings earlier this month, Manning was just No. 5 \u2014 trailing Oklahoma State\u2019s Drew Mestemaker<\/a>, Miami\u2019s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss\u2019 Trinidad Chambliss and Notre Dame\u2019s CJ Carr.<\/p>\n
