{"id":475838,"date":"2026-10-24T23:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-24T23:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/475838\/"},"modified":"2026-10-24T23:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-24T23:52:08","slug":"volunteers-provide-free-furnace-checkups-ahead-of-winter-in-lubbock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/475838\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers provide free furnace checkups ahead of winter in Lubbock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Winter is on its way, and area groups spent Saturday helping inspect and repair people\u2019s HVAC systems free of charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The South Plains-Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association partnered with students from the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center to inspect home equipment, repair minor problems and identify hazards in homes of people in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">More than 130 volunteers went out Saturday, along with 35 students from Lubbock and Lubbock-Cooper ISDs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The contractors association said the event is crucial as the winter months approach and people begin switching on their heaters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This is the 26th year of Heat the Town, Hamlin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSo we want to make sure the population of our elderly are, that we have them properly serviced and maintained,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cWhat we\u2019ve found, in previous years, is that we have a lot of elderly people who cannot afford to pay to have their furnaces serviced and\/or repaired, so this is a very needed service for our most sensitive population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Not only is the event good for the community, but it also helps student volunteers assist industry professionals and gain real work experience under their guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
