<\/p>\nTexas voters have been reaching out to KRPC 2 asking about the markings they are seeing on the back of their voting ballots. Election officials want voters to know those markings are intentional, legal and will not prevent a vote from being counted. <\/p>\n
Early voting ends October 30. During early voting in Houston, ballots bear the initials of Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth. On Election Day, ballots will instead carry the presiding judge\u2019s signature.<\/p>\n
The Harris County Elections Department has been addressing concerns on social media, working to clear up confusion and ease concerns among voters who may be unfamiliar with the practice.<\/p>\n
For Ligia Henriquez, the detail was news to her \u2014 but welcome news.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for letting me know,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile another resident, Cristian Podesta, said access to that kind of information makes a real difference at the ballot box.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe more education we can have and the more people can, you know, have an understanding of what to expect when they go in… it just makes it easier for everybody,\u201d Podesta said.<\/p>\n
Podesta also pushed back on the idea that unfamiliar election processes are a sign of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou might not be super familiar with how the law works, but that doesn\u2019t mean the law is being broken,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just think so many people think everything\u2019s fraud these days and everybody\u2019s cheating. And it\u2019s like, no, that\u2019s really not happening,\u201d Podesta added.<\/p>\n
For Henriquez, the motivation to vote goes beyond the mechanics of the ballot.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m vote because it\u2019s my right. I\u2019m vote because it\u2019s very important. I\u2019m vote because they hear me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
