{"id":477092,"date":"2026-10-26T12:12:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T12:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/477092\/"},"modified":"2026-10-26T12:12:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T12:12:07","slug":"saws-project-in-san-antonio-shutting-down-hildebrand-for-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/477092\/","title":{"rendered":"SAWS project in San Antonio shutting down Hildebrand for months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major water main replacement project for the San Antonio Water System will shut down an entire section of road for the next few months, as officials warn of detours and more ahead for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The San Antonio Public Works and Capital Delivery social media pages shared on Thursday, October 22 that a section of East Hildebrand Avenue will shutdown for the foreseeable future after Monday, as the project is worked on with a completion date in the Spring of 2027. &#8220;Beginning Oct. 26, 2026, a section of Hildebrand Ave. will be CLOSED for a major water main replacement project,&#8221; the post said. &#8220;The work is expected to be completed in March 2027. Please plan for alternate routes if you typically use Hildebrand between McCullough Ave. and Devine Road.&#8221;\u00a0They also included a map of detours that will be helpful to drivers in the area. The post added the the project will replace 4,600 feet of aging water mains &#8220;to ensure future reliability of water service for our customers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So what is the work being done? According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saws.org\/infrastructure\/construction-projects\/23-4005-hildebrand\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">SAWS website<\/a>, they are replacing mains that &#8220;have experienced frequent breaks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 2023 Water Main Replacement Project 4 includes three construction sites, one of which is located on E. Hildebrand Avenue,&#8221; the website states. &#8220;We will employ traffic control to minimize disturbances, but you may see detours and lane closures in work areas as lines are being replaced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SAWS added that at times, they may need to temporarily shut off water service in order to connect new lines to the existing system, but will alert those affected in advance. The project is operating at a cost of $11.3 million and will take until March 2027 to complete.
