Sundown will serve its final regular restaurant customers on Nov. 1, 2026, though private events will continue through the end of the year. Granada Theater will keep its concert calendar going through April 17, 2027, and all currently scheduled shows will take place as planned.

The properties’ next chapter will be Bathhouse, a wellness concept expected to open in late 2028.

Granada Theater’s History On Greenville Ave

The Granada first opened on Jan. 16, 1946, as a movie theater operated by Phil Isley Enterprises. Designed by Raymond F. Smith, the building originally had 950 seats and a neon-lit tower. Its interior featured hand-painted murals by artists who also worked on Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, including a ceiling illustration of a film goddess floating above a reel of film and clouds.

The building briefly became a concert hall in 1977 before returning to movies. Schoder reopened Granada as a full-time music venue on Aug. 18, 2004, beginning a new chapter for the historic theater.

A 2020 renovation brought back the original paint colors and highlighted the building’s Art Deco details and murals.

In the years since, Granada has hosted about 150 concerts annually, along with private events. The venue can accommodate around 1,000 people standing or 500 seated and has hosted more than 3,000 concerts and private events as of 2026.

Its performers have ranged from Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan to Adele, Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, Erykah Badu, ZZ Top and the Arctic Monkeys.

Sundown At Granada Opened Next Door

Sundown at Granada opened in 2012 as a restaurant and gathering place alongside the theater. The space can accommodate up to 250 guests for a full restaurant buyout, with a private rooftop that holds up to 100.

Under the announced closing timeline, regular restaurant service ends Nov. 1, but private events can continue through Dec. 31, 2026.

Why The Owners Decided To Sell

In their farewell statement, Schoder and Garton pointed to rising expenses, changing audiences and corporate consolidation as challenges for independent music venues. The owners also described the decision as a personal one after years spent building the businesses.

“Walking away isn’t easy,” they wrote. “But sometimes knowing when to turn the page is as important as knowing when to start the story.”

The owners said they considered proposals for the property that would have included hundreds of apartments, but ultimately chose a different direction for the site.

Bathhouse Planned For Late 2028

Bathhouse, a wellness concept, is expected to open on the property in late 2028. The owners said they wanted the next use of the Greenville Avenue corner to continue serving as a place for people to gather, even as the experience changes.

“Granada brought people together for the music while Sundown gave them a place to gather over food, drinks and friendship,” Schoder and Garton wrote. “Bathhouse will bring people together through wellness, relaxation and connection. Different experiences, but the same spirit of community.”

There is still time for fans to catch a show before Granada closes. All currently scheduled concerts will proceed, with the venue’s final events planned for April 17, 2027. The owners are also encouraging visitors to share their Granada memories using #GranadaTheater.

“We’re not done yet,” they wrote. “We’ve got one last run of shows, one last round of memories, and one heck of a farewell ahead.
