NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – Americans are predicted to spend around $13.5 billion on Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation.<\/p>\n
Homeowners are expected to spend $4.3 billion of that money on yard decorations including ghosts, skeletons and witches, some of which were seen in south Tyler.<\/p>\n
Shoppers spending at different stores<\/p>\n
While some spend on decorations, others are looking to spend on costumes.<\/p>\n
Kristy Dyess is costume shopping at East Texas Goodwill stores. She said Halloween is different for her this year in terms of spending, as she is spending time instead of cash.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking for something Halloween to wear to work for Halloween,\u201d Dyess said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve done more this year than I ever have due to my work being involved, like all the holidays and trunk or treat,\u201d Dyess said.<\/p>\n
Another shopper said they\u2019re is looking for pieces for a specific costume.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking for some pieces to the Halloween costume I\u2019m doing. I\u2019m going to be Marion Star Wars Fallen Order and so just getting pieces for that,\u201d the shopper said.<\/p>\n
Shoppers compare costs year to year<\/p>\n
At the Family Crisis Center of East Texas Thrift Store, Karis McKelvie and Birdie Linthicum are also doing their Halloween shopping.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year I saved. I saved a lot of money by just using stuff I already had in my closet,\u201d McKelvie said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually spent a little more this year because I got a mask, but last year I didn\u2019t buy anything for Halloween,\u201d Linthicum said.<\/p>\n
