As they gear up for this season’s matchup, they enter the contest with two of the most explosive offenses in the conference, with Georgia ranking first and Florida third in the SEC in total offense through the first seven weeks of competition.

Here is a position-by-position comparison of the pair’s offenses as they prepare to duke it out in Atlanta for the first time.

Quarterbacks

Florida and Georgia could not be in a more different place at the quarterback position.

Georgia returns star senior quarterback Gunner Stockton, who has captained the Bulldogs for the past two seasons and seen action since his freshman campaign in 2023. So far this season, he’s accumulated 1,570 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions on 117-of-158 passing.

Stockton has long been the team’s go-to guy, and his experience is nearly unmatched in college football.

Meanwhile, after seemingly putting the spring’s quarterback battle in the past, Florida seems to have resurfacing question marks at the position. Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo earned the role ahead of Week 1 and had maintained it until a shoulder injury thrust sophomore Tramell Jones Jr. into the fire for his first collegiate start on the road Oct. 17 against Texas.

Jones found success despite the big stage. With Philo’s injury status still uncertain and Jones’ 155-yard, two-touchdown outing fresh in the minds of Florida’s staff, it remains unclear who will get the starting role in Atlanta.

Running backs

When comparing running back rooms, it’s hard to compete with Jadan Baugh. Baugh entered the season in the Heisman conversation, but he dipped in production against Missouri and South Carolina after an explosive start to the season.

The junior rattled off five straight 135-rushing-yard performances dating back to last season, but he’s failed to surpass 95 yards since. Baugh saw just 12 carries for 13 yards against the Tigers and 15 carries for 59 yards against the Gamecocks. The Oct. 3 loss to Missouri also snapped the five-game streak of scoring at least twice.

Enjoy what you’re reading? Get content from The Alligator delivered to your inbox

On the opposing sideline stands Nate Frazier. Georgia’s running back has had a rollercoaster of a season, totaling 230 yards and five touchdowns so far. He suffered a rib injury in Week 3 against Arkansas, forcing him to miss the following two contests and take just two carries against Vanderbilt. With Frazier sidelined, the Bulldogs looked to Dwight Philipps Jr. to take on a larger role. The junior picked up the slack without their leading back, adding 17 and 10 carries against Alabama and Auburn, respectively.

Wide receivers

On paper, the names in Florida’s wide receiver corps outshine Georgia’s. However, the group has been hit hard by injuries.

While the open week gave Florida’s unit a chance to recover, plenty of the unit’s key players remain banged up. Headlining the injuries is star pass catcher Vernell Brown III. The sophomore has sat out Florida’s last three games with a knee injury, and his absence has certainly been felt.

Without him, receivers down the depth chart like Bailey Stockton have been forced to step up. Stockton has found immense success in the role, but he suffered a huge hit against Ole Miss and seemed to come down with a foot injury against Texas despite ultimately returning to the game.

Plus, Eric Singleton Jr. has seen limited action since his ankle injury in Week 1 that left him sidelined until Ole Miss. Singleton took on a massive load against Texas, muscling seven receptions for 43 yards, both marking season-highs. The Auburn transfer emerged as Jones’ No. 1 option in the win and a weapon he could rely on in his first career start.

For Georgia, though, only one notable receiver stands on the injury report: Isiah Canion. He’s been battling a leg injury since Week 4, and it’s unclear whether he’ll see the field against Florida. The junior has tallied just three receptions in two games of action.

The Bulldogs’ wide receiver corps is led by freshman Craig Dandridge and sophomore Talyn Taylor. Dandridge has 17 receptions for 310 yards and a touchdown on the season, while Taylor has 19 grabs for 283 yards. The latter boasts an offensive season grade of 81.1, per Pro Football Focus.

Returning junior London Humphreys has added a veteran presence to the unit. He’s posted 12 receptions for 120 yards. He and junior Sacovie White-Helton have proved viable options for Stockton. White-Helton has tallied 15 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown.

Tight ends

Florida’s tight ends unit may have been overlooked until the trip to Austin. Lacota Dippre caught two touchdown passes in the win over the Longhorns, marking his most productive game as a Gator. He had reeled in just two passes this season until then.

Dippre joins a room with Luke Harpring and Amir Jackson, who have each surpassed the 100-yard mark this season. Harpring, another Georgia Tech transfer, has caught a pass in each of Florida’s outings but has yet to find the end zone. Jackson has 106 receiving yards on just five receptions, making him a big-play weapon.

The Bulldogs’ big-body threat stands as Lawson Luckie. The Georgia native is coming off a three-catch, 41-yard showing against Auburn. Luckie scored for the second time this season and 10th time with the program. He is building arguably his best season in Athens and has nearly double the number of receptions as the Bulldogs’ next man up, Jaden Reddell.

Offensive line

Florida’s offensive line comes off one of its most desirable outings of the season against the Longhorns. Still, it’s one of the team’s weakest units by a large margin.

Against South Carolina, the unit struggled to give Philo time and space, which majorly contributed to the upset loss at home. Philo was sacked a season-high three times, and Florida failed to generate any semblance of offense.

But Georgia’s offensive line is one of the best in the conference. The group is ranked No. 20 in the country, per PFF. The Bulldogs boast a pass-blocking grade of 77.9 and are the fourth-best run-blocking group in the nation with a grade of 80.3.

At the center of Georgia’s stout front five is Earnest Greene III. PFF ranks him as the country’s No. 7 offensive tackle with an offensive grade of 81.8. The senior right tackle is having his best season of his collegiate career after standing as the No. 69 tackle in the nation last year.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Florida’s Bryce Lovett. PFF slots him as the No. 216 tackle with a grim pass-blocking grade of 54.5. While not having the worst season of his four-year career, his pass-blocking grades of 28.5 and 7.9 against Missouri and South Carolina, respectively, certainly weaken his campaign and make it difficult for Florida’s signal callers.

Contact Ava DiCecca at adicecca@alligator.org.
