Blue-eyed soul singers never go out of style, as evidenced by chart-topper Teddy Swims<\/a>. The latest such crooner with golden pipes worth hearing is Fort Worth<\/a>\u2019s Michael Lee, who releases his new album, \u201cMichael Lee & the Wartime Limousine,\u201d on Oct. 30.<\/p>\n

One of the year\u2019s best local albums, it\u2019s steeped in vintage Motown and Stax sounds, with finger-snapping horns and female backing vocals. \u201cStarlight\u201d and \u201cLiving High\u201d venture into the Temptations\u2019 psychedelic-soul turf, but Lee\u2019s gritty singing and biting blues-rock guitar solos leave a distinct imprint. He\u2019s also got a way with words: \u201cCaught It\u201d recounts his real-life pandemic romance, in which a two-week quarantine led to wedding bells.<\/p>\n

An underage Lee learned his craft by sneaking into the Hole in the Wall on Harry Hines Boulevard to watch local blues masters like Lucky Peterson<\/a> and Andrew \u201cJr. Boy\u201d Jones. In 2018, he made it all the way to NBC\u2019s \u201cThe Voice,\u201d impressing Jennifer Hudson and other coaches with his version of B.B. King\u2019s \u201cThe Thrill Is Gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee\u2019s latest supporting cast hails from closer to home. The album was produced by the Silver Skylarks<\/a>, the creative duo of Jeff \u201cSkin\u201d Wade and Danny Balis, who also plays bass throughout. Another Dallas veteran, Chad Stockslager, plays keyboards and co-wrote \u201cLesser Than a Better Man.\u201d<\/p>\n
