EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A man riding an ATV on a public roadway in El Paso was arrested after deputies said he performed a wheelie in front of a patrol unit and then tried to flee.<\/p>\n
According to the El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at about 7:50 p.m., deputies responding to an unrelated call saw a man operating an ATV eastbound on Paseo Del Este Boulevard.<\/p>\n
Deputies said the driver performed a wheelie in front of the patrol unit, and when they attempted a traffic stop, he accelerated and refused to stop.<\/p>\n
Deputies then said the driver lost control of the ATV at the intersection of Paseo Del Este Boulevard and Kilvington Street and ran. <\/p>\n
After a brief foot pursuit, deputies took him into custody and identified him as 20-year-old Marcus Sanchez of Horizon, Texas.<\/p>\n
Sanchez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and evading arrest or detention. His total bond was set at $22,500.<\/p>\n
\u201cATVs do not belong on public roadways, and fleeing from deputies puts everyone nearby at risk,\u201d Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. \u201cIf a deputy signals you to stop, pull over safely and comply. Choosing to flee can turn a traffic stop into a serious criminal charge.\u201d <\/p>\n
