LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The bottom line: More record warmth is likely today through Saturday. Lubbock may even take a run at its record high for the month of November.<\/p>\n

Driving the well-above average to near record temperatures is a high pressure area. It\u2019s been centered over the Desert Southwest, but is gradually shifting eastward. As it does, it will bring even more warming to the KCBD\/FOX34 viewing area. Concurrently, it will thwart any chance of showers through the weekend.<\/p>\n

We continue to watch a strong and expansive storm just off the West Coast. This is the system that early in the week was anticipated to result in a cooler and possibly wet weekend in these here parts. The storm, however, is becoming what we call cutoff. That is, it is uncoupling from the jet stream, which is the main mover of weather systems from the west to east across North America. Without the push from the jet the system\u2019s eastward movement is impeded.<\/p>\n

Record high temperatures for Lubbock:<\/p>\n

Thursday 82\u00b0 in 1973<\/p>\n

Friday 85\u00b0 1933<\/p>\n

Saturday 85\u00b0 1965<\/p>\n

Sunday 88\u00b0 2021<\/p>\n

So, our local weather will continue to be largely influenced by the strengthening high pressure. At least through Saturday and most likely through Sunday. These elements, the high and low, will eventually shift east. As they do, temperatures will moderate some late in the weekend with the passage of a cold front Sunday night or Monday.<\/p>\n

Lubbock\u2019s record high for the month of November is 90\u00b0. It was recorded on November 9 in 2006.<\/p>\n

As the low, now over the Pacific, passes north of us on it\u2019s way east it will push a cold front through West Texas Sunday night or Monday. This front, unlike the front early this week which came from the north and sent morning temperatures plummeting, will arrive from the west. This type of front, known as a Pacific cold front, typically is not accompanied by precipitation. <\/p>\n

What can we expect?<\/p>\n

Typically, wind. You\u2019ll see that reflected in our forecast for Monday. We also we see temperatures drop, but not to the extent we did early in the week with the Arctic front (from the north).
