SAN ANTONIO \u2013 A San Antonio man was sentenced to prison last week for killing his girlfriend\u2019s coworker in 2025 on the Southwest Side.<\/p>\n

A jury decided Ronnie Jay Salas, 24, will spend 70 years in prison for the murder of Andre Montera, 24, the Bexar County District Attorney\u2019s Office said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

On April 23, 2025, Salas \u201cambushed\u201d Montera over a suspected affair with his girlfriend, the district attorney\u2019s office said. Salas waited outside Montera\u2019s apartment in the 100 block of Ames Avenue, where he confronted and shot Montera in the stomach while he was in a car.<\/p>\n

Montera was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Salas fled the scene before police arrived.<\/p>\n

A Crime Stoppers post was issued the following month in search of Salas. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Kansas<\/a> on May 15.<\/p>\n

It took three months for Salas\u2019 extradition back to Bexar County. Montera\u2019s mother told KSAT she was not happy with the lengthy process.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not going to let Texas take so long that this guy got to walk out the doors in Kansas. I just wasn\u2019t,\u201d Toni Brantley<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

The governor\u2019s office said timelines for these processes can vary based on \u201ccourt schedules, transport and personnel availability.\u201d<\/p>\n

A jury trial to convict Salas began last week and concluded on Oct. 23, when he was found guilty.<\/p>\n
