A man is in critical condition after being shot while allegedly trying to force his way into a Houston apartment Thursday morning, according to police.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened around 2:26 a.m. Oct. 29 at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Bering Drive.<\/p>\n

According to investigators, a man was awakened by someone kicking his apartment door and trying to open the handle. His girlfriend and their 1-year-old child were also inside the apartment.<\/p>\n

The man asked his girlfriend if she recognized the person outside, but she said she did not know him.<\/p>\n

Police said the resident grabbed an AR-15 rifle and opened the door, leading to an argument with the suspect. The resident then shot the man as he allegedly tried to push his way inside.<\/p>\n

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was listed in critical condition.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the suspect was wearing a Halloween costume resembling a character from the movie \u201cDumb and Dumber,\u201d including an orange suit and a top hat.<\/p>\n

Police believe the suspect may live in the same apartment complex and may have been intoxicated after returning from a party and mistakenly gone to the wrong apartment. That information remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Both men are believed to be in their 30s.<\/p>\n
