The family of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland<\/a> has cast suspicion upon law enforcement over the death of the NFL star.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly think they killed him, I truly do,\u201d Marshawn\u2019s cousin Jasmine Kneeland, 33, told the Daily Mail<\/a> in a story published on Saturday, November 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Marshawn died on Thursday, November 6, following a brief police chase after he failed to stop for a traffic violation. After ditching his car, Marshawn\u2019s body was found near the Dallas Parkway, dead from an apparent suicide. He was 24 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMarshawn is not a violent person,\u201d Jasmine said. \u201cHe is not a hot head. Something here is just not right. Something made him really scared and he ran.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA former coach of late Dallas Cowboys lineman Marshawn Kneeland revealed he spoke to the NFL star just days before his sudden death. \u201cI am crushed at this moment and my heart and the hearts of Marshawn\u2019s family, teammates and coaches are shattered,\u201d University of Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito said in a statement [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Jasmine continued, \u201cThis is nothing like him at all. He loves his family. He\u2019s like a big kid. He likes making TikTok videos of the little ones in our family, he likes being around them a lot. He was generous with them, always buying stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly has reached out to the Frisco Police Department for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, why would he do something like that all of a sudden?\u201d Jasmine asked. \u201cThat\u2019s not the person I know. Our family is utterly devastated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jasmine explained the Kneeland family was looking forward to seeing Marshawn back home in Michigan this past weekend, during the Cowboys\u2019 bye week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had this big reunion planned this week at the home where he grew up,\u201d she said. \u201cWe do that kind of thing. All the children come, all the family come together. We eat, we laugh, we pray together. Everybody\u2019s so proud of Marshawn. He\u2019s come such a long way and there was such love for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jasmine added, \u201cHe was supposed to be here with us in Grand Rapids. Not dead after a police chase.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to 911 audio, Marshawn had texted friends and family members \u201cgoodbye\u201d<\/a> shortly before his death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Marshawn\u2019s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera<\/a>, told authorities Marshawn had \u201ca history of mental illness\u201d and she was concerned for his well-being.<\/p>\n

In audio obtained by Us on Monday, November 10<\/a>, an acquaintance of the late Cowboys star said he was \u201cnot able to go to prison or to jail\u201d in the hours before his body was found.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The extended Kneeland family \u2014 including his father, Shawn, who is currently incarcerated<\/a>, his brothers, AJ and Shawn Jr., and his sister, Yahmya \u2014 issued a statement about Marshawn\u2019s death<\/a> on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn the early morning hours of Thursday, November 6, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones heard his phone ring.\u00a0 Stephen, the oldest son of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, answered, only to be told that Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland was dead.\u00a0 The call came \u201cnot long after the incident,\u201d according to ESPN. Kneeland\u2019s body [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are devastated by this tremendous loss and are still processing the depth of our grief,\u201d the family said. \u201cAs Marshawn was making his mark on the football field with the Dallas Cowboys, he held an even more special place off the field \u2014 as a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marshawn\u2019s mother, Wendy, died in February 2024, just two months before her son was drafted by the Cowboys.\u00a0<\/p>\n
