Methodist Healthcare<\/a> has found its next president and CEO.<\/p>\n

David Shimp, who has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience with HCA Healthcare, is taking the helm on Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

The hospital system’s former CEO, Dan Miller, who was appointed president of San Antonio’s largest healthcare system in 2023, announced his departure in August<\/a>. He moved on to become president of HCA<\/a>‘s East Florida Division. HCA jointly owns Methodist with local nonprofit Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas Inc.<\/a><\/p>\n

As president and CEO, Shimp will oversee Methodist’s 11 hospitals, 10 freestanding emergency rooms and 35 urgent care clinics.<\/p>\n

He has held several executive leadership positions at hospitals and healthcare systems across Texas, Florida, Oklahoma and Colorado. Most recently, Shimp has served as CEO for HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in Kissimmee, Fla. He has held that role since December 2021.<\/p>\n

“David is a proven healthcare leader with extensive experience leading complex hospital operations and developing strong teams,” said Erol Akdamar<\/a>, president of HCA Healthcare’s American Group. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to clinical excellence, physician collaboration and investing in the people and programs that make a difference for patients. I am confident David’s experience will serve Methodist Healthcare well as it enters its next chapter under his leadership.”<\/p>\n

While at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, he helped grow key clinical service lines, expand the cardiovascular program, open four freestanding emergency rooms and invest more than $200 million in development projects. Shimp also grew graduate medical education to 207 residents and fellows across 17 residency and fellowship programs.<\/p>\n

Now, Shimp will lead Methodist during its largest expansion in 30 years.<\/a><\/p>\n

This won’t be Shimp’s first stint in Texas – he served as CEO of Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso from 2017 to 2021 and CEO of St. David’s Medical Center in Austin for four years before that.<\/p>\n
