After seven years in television news<\/a>, a Texas reporter<\/a> is stepping away from the camera to spend more time with her newborn son.\u00a0<\/p>\n

KWTX News 10<\/a> reporter Madison Herber announced Wednesday that she will not return to the Central Texas<\/a> station after taking 12 weeks off following the birth of her son on Aug. 4.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“With a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to stay home with my boy,” Herber wrote on social media. “Time is already moving so fast and I don’t want to miss any moments with him.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Herber acknowledged that leaving television news was a bittersweet decision. While she’ll miss her career, she said she’s looking forward to spending time with her son.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“This job has been a ministry for me. Now, my ministry is motherhood,” she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During her four years at KWTX<\/a>, Herber covered everything from deadly shootings and devastating tornadoes to military deployments and the COVID-19 pandemic. She also recalled spending a year helping families who paid a cemetery for gravestones that were never ordered. Her reporting eventually helped secure full refunds.<\/p>\n

Herber reflected on the generosity of Central Texas<\/a> viewers, who helped raise money for fire victims, people facing medical emergencies and patients needing organ transplants. She also highlighted the millions raised through KWTX’s annual Food for Families fundraiser, which she described as her favorite day of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“From being behind the scenes to on your screen, I\u00a0have always felt grateful to serve as a vessel for hope, healing and the truth,” she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A native of East Texas<\/a>, Herber began her television career at KETK in Tyler while studying multimedia journalism at the University of Texas at Tyler<\/a>. She started as a camera and teleprompter operator before joining KETK as a production assistant in August 2019. She later worked as an editor, weekday reporter and weekend producer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the historic February 2021 winter freeze, Herber helped co-produce a seven-hour continuous newscast that earned KETK a Lone Star Emmy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Herber later joined KWTX, where her last published story appeared on July 30. In June, Temple Independent School District nominated her for the 2026 Media Honor Roll, a Texas Association of School Boards Program recognizing fair and balanced reporting on public education.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although she’s leaving television news, Herber assured viewers she isn’t leaving Central Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Central Texas<\/a> is my home now and my husband and I love the community we’ve built here with our church and our friends,” she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n
