Fort Worth City Council member Chris Nettles didn’t hold back after the Fort Worth Police Officers Association endorsed every Republican candidate on the Nov. 3 ballot. On Facebook, Nettles \u2014 who represents District 8 \u2014 called it “very telling” and said a “majority of these endorse[d] candidates are the reason Fort Worth is in the shape it is.” The POA represents more than 1,700 officers and backed candidates in nearly 40 races, including Ken Paxton, Greg Abbott and Tim O’Hare.<\/p>\n
\u00bb\u00bb Read the story, see the comments<\/a><\/p>\n Sheriff Waybourn vs. Commissioner Simmons over a jail death<\/p>\n After independent investigators found no wrongdoing in inmate Mack Greer’s June 17 in-custody death, Sheriff Bill Waybourn called Democratic Commissioner Alisa Simmons “so irresponsible” for holding a press conference the next day claiming Greer “suffered fatal head injuries.” The medical examiner ruled Greer died of complications from moyamoya disease, a rare condition that narrows the brain’s arteries. Simmons, running for Tarrant County judge, pushed back and said she helps families get answers the sheriff’s office won’t provide.<\/p>\n \u00bb\u00bb Read the story, see the comments<\/a><\/p>\n Daniel Pullin abruptly out as TCU chancellor<\/p>\n Just over a year into the job, Daniel Pullin resigned as TCU’s chancellor. Former chancellor Victor Boschini \u2014 who led the university for more than 20 years \u2014 is back, effective immediately. TCU’s statement didn’t give a reason for Pullin’s exit or details of any separation agreement. Pullin had been pushing an ambitious plan to grow enrollment, expand the campus and earn the coveted “R1” research designation.<\/p>\n \u00bb\u00bb Read the story, see the comments<\/a><\/p>\n RFK Jr. drops into JPS with a kidney plan<\/p>\n U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. landed at JPS Health Network on Oct. 20 to roll out a national kidney care plan focused on preventing kidney failure, improving dialysis and reforming transplants. “(The) organ transplant program had a monopoly that ended up corrupting the system,” Kennedy said. The visit drew extra attention because of Kennedy’s history as an anti-vaccine activist. Tarrant County’s measles-mumps-rubella vaccination rate for kindergartners dropped from nearly 94% to nearly 93% in the past year, while conscientious exemptions rose from 5.3% to 6.8%.<\/p>\n
