The system is the fourth-largest private employer in the Austin area, with about 13,200 employees, per the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>HCA Healthcare, the system\u2019s hospital operating partner, is searching nationwide for his successor and expects to announce a choice in the next few months, the announcement said.<\/p>\n<p>What we know<\/p>\n<p>Huffstutler has led the system since February 2011, per its <a href=\"https:\/\/stdavids.com\/about-us\/leadership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">leadership page<\/a>. He will stay on as president and CEO through March.<\/p>\n<p>He is also president of <a href=\"https:\/\/hcahealthcare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">HCA Healthcare\u2019s<\/a> Central and West Texas Division, a role he will keep through March, the announcement said. The division also includes Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare in El Paso.<\/p>\n<p>The system grew from 60 sites of care to more than 200 in Central Texas during his tenure, the announcement said. It now has nine hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>What leaders are saying<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeading St. David\u2019s HealthCare has been the greatest privilege of my career,\u201d Huffstutler said in the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Ray Bonilla, chair of the system\u2019s Board of Governors, said Huffstutler leaves the system well positioned for continued growth.<\/p>\n<p>Some context<\/p>\n<p>The system won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nist.gov\/node\/427616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award<\/a> in 2014, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital proceeds go to St. David\u2019s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation, the system\u2019s two nonprofit partners alongside HCA Healthcare.
